A SHORT AND RELAXED INTRODUCTION TO AMSTERDAM

This tour is fabulous! We especially enjoyed Jan, who provided entertaining history as well as wonderful food and beverage experiences. Would highly recommend!!

My husband booked a tour just for us last weekend with Jan. It was 4 hours and we had a great time! We had a variety of foods in different places and learned so much about the history & culture of Amsterdam. Jan individualized our tour to accommodate our questions and factored in the extreme heat. His stories and historical content were blended along in a natural discussion as we walked, tasted, and explored Amsterdam through our senses. Thank you so much for this incredible experience!

We had a wonderful walking tour hosted by Joanna. Pacing was great and we enjoyed Dutch apple pie, a sandwich, some cheese and wine, Indonesian satay, and bitteballen with local beer. Joanna was very knowledgeable and the tour was at a very relaxed pace.

Excellent tour and tour guide. Rudolf was knowledgeable, friendly and a great sense of humour! We sampled a wide range of delicious food, in varied neighbourhoods. Our experience with the Amsterdam walking food tour was fantastic! We felt like a local while visiting all the markets, wine shops and food establishments that Thijs, our guide, personally enjoys! Our meeting place at the historical and charming Le Papeneiland set the tone for the day. We enjoyed their signature Apple Pie while getting to know Thijs. Not only did he shepherd us through Amsterdam’s streets and along the canals , he also wove the history of both the city and the country into the Dutch food & cafe culture in a way that brought it all to life. Really wonderful tour! I was fresh off a red eye flight and this tour was such a wonderful introduction to Amsterdam! So many yummy tastings, there wasn’t a bad one in the bunch! Thijs was so knowledgeable! Because of his wonderful connections to the community we were welcomed warmly every place we went! The food and drinks really were exceptional, like…Dutch wine? Who knew! It didn’t hurt that the Jordaan neighborhood feels so special and beautiful, and the day we had was just a perfect spring day with the “May snow” sprinkling down from the trees. I would absolutely do this tour again, and I do hope to bring my husband next time. He’s been jealous of all the local knowledge I’ve been dropping. If I had only 4 hours to experience Amsterdam, I would have left this tour happy and feeling like I’d gotten to see the real city! It’s a cheat code straight past the instagram famous Amsterdam and right to the true flavor of this wonderful city!

Food tours are our favorite things to do in new cities, and this tour did not disappoint! Rudolph was an excellent tour guide, introducing us to new foods as well as teaching us about the history and architecture of Amsterdam. But come HUNGRY as the amount of food is quite abundant. Definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful time with Katya! The food was delicious and her historical information was informative which collaborated with the food. She was funny, yet very interesting as she told the history of the neighborhoods and the locations. If you have a chance, choose Katya for a great tour guide. She’s fantastic!!

Thijs was superb! We had a delightful day and enjoyed the food and drink. His knowledge of Amsterdam’s history along with maps to illustrate the periods throughout history added so much to the experience. We will certainly recommend Amsterdam Food Tours to friends in the States!

The food tour itself was outstanding, and I would highly recommend it based on the choices alone, but the stories and knowledge of the area made it all that more enjoyable. This was absolutely an experience not be missed. Taking it the first or second day is a terrific way to be introduced to Amsterdam, particularly the Jordaan. This was big fun and interesting. Discovering the hidden habits of the locals, and receiving some history facts combined with personal view on the way to the different stops. Don’t tell everybody this tour exists, you don’t want it to get too commercialized.

Thijs led one of most outstanding and comprehensive food tours my husband and I have even been on (and we have done a lot)! We not only had an abundance and variety of Dutch food that was delicious but Thijs and his colleague Joanna shared so much Danish history not only about the food and the places we went to but about the neighborhoods and the development of Amsterdam. We both agreed Thijs food tour was one of the highlights of our 6 days in Amsterdam and we would strongly encourage anyone whether you’re interested in food, history or the culture of Amsterdam to do this tour!

We had an excellent afternoon with Katya earlier this month on the Grand Dutch food tour. We enjoyed sampling many dishes that we would not have tried otherwise (herring, satay, cured meats) if we were to go out on our own. The nice touch and probably my favourite (toss up between that and the apple pie) was the Dutch wine and cheese tasting in the quiet back room of this cute shop. We were very fortunate to only have our family of 3 on the tour so we got extra attention and all of our crazy questions answered along the way as we love hearing unique historical facts. Thanks again for treating us so well.

I had the greatest time during my tour this past Sunday. Lots of good local food with a great guide. Each place has been picked carefully and represents different aspects of the city’s food universe, from the classic apple pie to Indonesian-inspired dish. Being in Amsterdam for a full week, I went back to many of the places. I recommend 100%!

We had such a wonderful time with Thijs on the Grand Dutch Food & History Tour! I expected good things, since Rick Steves gave Amsterdam Food Tours high marks in his Amsterdam travel book, but the tour exceeded expectations. It did not feel like a tour but having a lovely walk around the city with a friend, who knew all of the good spots to visit and enjoy fantastic food, beverages and experiences. As a bonus, we learned a great deal about the city and its history along the way. I would recommend the tour to everyone and when we visit Amsterdam again in the future, we will look to Amsterdam Food Tours to make the trip memorable.

We had an excellent Sunday tour with Thijs, and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting. We were only in the city for a couple days, so having this tour was the perfect combination of exploring a neighborhood, learning some history of the city, and trying lots of different types of foods (I will be thinking about the sandwich for a long time to come). Can’t think of a better introduction to Dutch cuisine, and only regret we aren’t here long enough to go back and try full meals at every place we stopped.

If you’re looking to experience the real Amsterdam beyond the usual tourist spots, this tour is absolutely perfect. Just finished a tour with our excellent guide – David. He was informative and knowledgeable about the history as well as the food. His time management was good – we never felt rushed and yet we got to all the places. He was very comfortable to be with and answered all our questions. We got a true sense of the Dutch culture. And all the stops served up yummy food. We will not be needing to eat dinner tonight. Would absolutely recommend.

Jan did a great job providing a thorough and detailed history of Amsterdam as well as showcasing highlights of boutique dutch cheese, wine, and the delicious apple pie! Marc gave an amazing tour today, the excellent choice of stops gave a wonderful glimpse into Amsterdam life and history. From traditional apple cake, meats, cheeses, wines to Indonesian satay all wrapped in engaging stories and information about this beautiful city. Marc and the wonderful local businesses earned every one of the 5 stars!

We took the Grand Dutch Food and History tour today with Inbal. She was intelligent and engaging and managed the group and our experience well. The food stops were places that felt very local and provided exquisite tastes, which Inbal helped us understand. I would recommend this highly, and it was good value for money!

David was great. His knowledge of the area was excellent and he had very interesting stories and historic facts to share. we discovered all sorts of interesting local food and learned that the Nederland has wineries. We got to taste an excellent white while sampling some local cheese.

I enjoyed a fantastic time on the Amsterdam East (Oost) Food Tour with guide Anna. Only three of us were on the tour, and as we walked from place to place Anna shared interesting info about the neighborhoods, streets, and restaurants, adding in relevant historical perspective and more. You’ll eat a lot on the tour, so do come hungry. I think even deep foodies will get a lot out of the tour, and you’ll enjoy food from Surinam, Indonesia, India, Turkey, and more. Oost is such a vibrant area (and blissfully away from the throngs in the canal area)—feels a bit like Jackson Heights in Queens, with so many food cultures represented. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re curious and open. The pistachio, hazelnut, and chocolate baklava I had at Divan Patisserie (shown) was outstanding, as was the rest of the food.
