Our guide David was fantastic. His knowledge of the food and local history was excellent. The choice of restaurants in the Jordaan was a good selection. We started the tour with apple pie in Cafe Papenelland. Then had grilled sausage sandwiches at a local sandwich shop. Next had fish, pickled herring and fried codfish. After that bitter ballen and Jenever and then chicken satay. Finished off with cheese and quince.Total there were six stops for food and drinks. We certainly didnt need to eat dinner that evening. The history and walking tour was fun and learned a lot about the Dutch culture. Especially appreciated a peek into a private garden area.

An absolute highlight—Joanna takes the cake (or pie)! We have done a few food tours in different cities, but this tour with Joanna was by far the best. It offered the perfect balance of amazing local foods mixed with a walking tour of the Jordaan district. We learned so much about the rich history of the area while getting a true, authentic look at life in the city from a local’s perspective. She also provided tips for further tasting adventures. Highly recommend!

My husband and I joined Amsterdam Food Tours and although there were only 4 out of 8 people attended, the tour went ahead. Thijs was our guide and we found him to be very warm and informative. Thijs answered all our questions about Amsterdam even how to use the metro! The food and drink tastings were very delicious and extremely generous portions. Highly recommend this tour. Thijs is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We did this tour on the first day of our trip, and got recommendations on other restaurants and activities to try while in town. All turned out to be great experiences. The tour itself had a wealth of historical knowledge and great food while avoiding tourist traps. We were able to take a brief detour and try a couple extra stops. Can’t recommend these guys enough!

Absolutely fantastic private food tour with Jan! This was easily one of the highlights of our time in Amsterdam. Jan was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging, and from the beginning it felt more like exploring the city with a local friend than being on a formal tour. Every food stop was excellent, and we loved getting to try a variety of Dutch specialties while also learning about Amsterdam’s history, neighborhoods, and culture along the way. We visited on a recent Wednesday afternoon. We loved our guide Rudolph who was funny and informative. The food was delicious and plentiful. Loved the sausage sandwich, the piping hot fresh fish and Indonesian satay. Got a full four and a half tour plus some tasty drinks. Highly recommended !

What an outstanding food tour! Well organized, very informative. We learned a great deal about Amsterdam that we otherwise would not have known. Food tells the story of a city: its people, its history, its culture. We got to interact with shop owners who have been doing this work for generations. What an absolute treat. A+ would do again!

We had a wonderful walking tour hosted by Joanna. Pacing was great and we enjoyed Dutch apple pie, a sandwich, some cheese and wine, Indonesian satay, and bitteballen with local beer. Joanna was very knowledgeable and the tour was at a very relaxed pace.

Excellent tour and tour guide. Rudolf was knowledgeable, friendly and a great sense of humour! We sampled a wide range of delicious food, in varied neighbourhoods. Our experience with the Amsterdam walking food tour was fantastic! We felt like a local while visiting all the markets, wine shops and food establishments that Thijs, our guide, personally enjoys! Really wonderful tour! I was fresh off a red eye flight and this tour was such a wonderful introduction to Amsterdam! So many yummy tastings, there wasn’t a bad one in the bunch! Thijs was so knowledgeable! Because of his wonderful connections to the community we were welcomed warmly every place we went! The food and drinks really were exceptional, like…Dutch wine? Who knew! It didn’t hurt that the Jordaan neighborhood feels so special and beautiful, and the day we had was just a perfect spring day with the “May snow” sprinkling down from the trees. I would absolutely do this tour again, and I do hope to bring my husband next time. He’s been jealous of all the local knowledge I’ve been dropping. If I had only 4 hours to experience Amsterdam, I would have left this tour happy and feeling like I’d gotten to see the real city! It’s a cheat code straight past the instagram famous Amsterdam and right to the true flavor of this wonderful city!

Food tours are our favorite things to do in new cities, and this tour did not disappoint! Rudolph was an excellent tour guide, introducing us to new foods as well as teaching us about the history and architecture of Amsterdam. But come HUNGRY as the amount of food is quite abundant. Definitely recommend!

The food tour itself was outstanding, and I would highly recommend it based on the choices alone, but the stories and knowledge of the area made it all that more enjoyable. This was big fun and interesting. Discovering the hidden habits of the locals, and receiving some history facts combined with personal view on the way to the different stops. Don’t tell everybody this tour exists, you don’t want it to get too commercialized.
